About Hoshime
Crafting ideas into code, one star at a time.

Hey, I'm Jason Zhou
My journey into development began the way many good things do — with curiosity. It started on Roblox, where I explored how digital worlds were built. That curiosity led me to JavaScript, where I created my first Discord bot. What began as a simple tool quickly evolved into something with a personality, a theme, and a growing sense of identity — something I could truly call mine.
I don’t know exactly where this path will lead — maybe software development, maybe game design — but I do know one thing: I want to do more than just follow someone else's blueprint. I want to build things that reflect who I am, things that experiment with theme, structure, and emotion.
Hoshime is the space I’ve created for that. A personal project. A professional home. A place where I can explore, iterate, and grow. Whether I’m designing a minimal interface or writing backend logic, I build with clarity, creativity, and curiosity — and above all, with the goal of real, sustainable growth.
My current focus is developing Hoshime into a story-driven portfolio — one that blends code with identity, and function with feeling.
The name itself is rooted in narrative. Hoshime comes from the Japanese words hoshi (星, “star”) and hime (姫, “princess”), inspired by the celestial legend of Orihime — the star-weaver. Her myth isn’t just about stars and longing, but about imagination, patience, and the beauty of crafting something meaningful over time.

Pilars of Hoshime
Coding
For me, coding is more than a technical skill — it’s a language for building meaning. Whether I’m writing a Discord bot or scaffolding out a PHP-based dashboard, I’m drawn to code that feels purposeful and clean. I like to keep things readable, reusable, and quietly clever. Hoshime is where I put that into practice: no overengineering, just intentional structure built to last.
Creativity
Creativity is the thread that ties it all together. It shows up in the visual rhythm of a page, the metaphors that shape a UI, and the quiet choices in copy, color, or motion. I don’t just build for function — I build for feeling. Through themes, stories, and subtle design, I aim to give each project a tone and identity that resonates beyond the screen. Hoshime is my space to explore that creative edge.
Systems Thinking
I believe that behind every polished interface or elegant feature is a structure — a system of parts working together with intention. Systems thinking isn’t just about organizing logic; it’s about understanding how decisions ripple outward. From the flow of a user journey to the modularity of a codebase, I approach every project like a living system. I ask how things connect, where they scale, and how to design with both clarity and complexity in mind.
Continuous Learning
Everything I’ve built so far started with not knowing how — and figuring it out anyway. I treat learning not as a phase, but as a permanent mindset. Whether I’m experimenting with a new language, digging into documentation, or reviewing past code with fresh eyes, I always aim to grow with intention. Hoshime exists not to show perfection, but progress — a portfolio that evolves as I do.
